Archery begins the last week of september and runs through the last of jan or first of feb.Closes during the statewide regular gun season . There is an early primitive season on 3 designated areas in the state . This is in October , the third week I think . Regular statewide gun season is the first monday after thanksgiving and runs 7 days . And then two weeks later , another 2 day (weekend) gun season . There is also a 2 day youth season that is just before the regular gun season. For many years the primitive statewide season was wed - sat . Then sunday hunting was legalized and it became thurs - sunday. This was also after the new year holiday . Then they moved it to the week between christmas and new year . This was always a good time to hunt , generally weather was good , and lots of people were off work for the holidays. Some parts of the state allows 6 deer , only one antlered deer per season , regardless of method taken . Archery is longbow , recurve , compound and crossbows . 40# - 200# primitive seasons ,,,,38 caliber and larger , firing a single ball/bullet. Regular gun season,,,,410 -10 ga. not capable of holding more than 3 shells. Handguns ,,,357 mag and larger ,,,with a straightwalled case. Muzzleloaders can be used during the regular gun season. No centerfire cartridge rifles permitted.
