Da' gummit ! I was afraid somebody would ask ? I have been at as hard as I can go . Covered more hills and hollers than whole of the westward migration of the 1800's. One afternoon last week I slipped into a known hang out those bearded jehu's . I went in like an Indian. No , not in breechclout and moccasins,,,I mean quiet. Around 100 yards into the cedars I stopped and calmed down and listened a bit . Then I let out this noise that was supposed to be a gobbler cluck and one clucked back . I 'bout fell down , but managed to be still and wait a moment , then clucked again . I got a second responce and somewhat closer . I began easing the 410 to my shoulder . He never answered nor showed .I believe he was in a shallow run off gulley when he made his last cluck which made him sound farther away to me . At any rate , I was evidently caught in the act of trying to shoulder that dangerous sportin' arm,,,,,,,,,,or he fell down laughin' at the size of its muzzle. Yesterday around 3:00 I got into a conversation with a hen. It was my first action with any length of time to it . But when I threw in a gobbler yelp she went silent and then 3-5 minutes later I see her and one other bird fly up into some oaks,,,,2 hours before sundown . I wasn't gonna shoot her , i was just trying to get some action started and maybe pull in a tom . If I keep going at this rate , with no success , I will for sure cover every acre of that hunting area and some private land too. To make matters worse ,,That feller I took on opening day last spring , REDLINE, went down to the hunting area yesterday morning just to walk around and look up the deer sign . He rounds a corner in a field and there 15 yards in front is 9 turkeys , two of which where longbeards . And now this time change just about ruins any chance of an evening hunt. We have 4 more weekends to find that longbeard willing to play the game .
